Historical photos

September 27, 2007

lcn-0912-sears-3k.jpgFrom my years of doing Lee County Neighbors, I’ve learned that Lee Countians like their history. They show their appreciation of history by submitting photo from a time and place in the county’s past. To the right is a photo I’ve yet to run, but it was submitted by a frequent historical photo contributor, K.K. Caldwell Horton. The photo is of the Tupelo Sears group, which included Horton’s mother, that won a trip to Memphis in the mid 1950s. The group is photographed in front of the Pink Palace museum.

Horton told me yesterday about the comments she’s received about her photos, saying they spotted older relatives in the shots. Buddy Vandiver of the Richmond Community, who e-mailed a collection of photos earlier this year, also said the same thing.

I’d like to continue running the historical photos if I receive them. Right now, I have one more photo on hold. If you have a photo or photos already scanned and want to see them published in Neighbors, e-mail them to bobby.pepper@djournal.com. Include basic info about the photo and ID as many people as possible.

Parade, Festival, Softball Photos

September 26, 2007

921pics-078.jpgThis past Friday and Saturday were busy days for me and my camera.

Friday afternoon, I shot the Saltillo Elementary School Character Parade. A few hours later, I was at the Guntown Cotton Festival. I was back at the festival the next morning, and then drove to New Albany for the Robertson’s Sportswear softball challenge, where five Lee County teams were playing.

Another start

bobbymugweb1.jpgWelcome to the revised edition of the Lee County Neighbors blog. If you want to know more about Neighbors is about, visit the About Lee County Neighbors link at the top of the page.

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged. Out of the countless things I do on a workday, blogging has had to take a back seat. I’ve been bummed out about the direction of this blog, as if it’s missing something compared to the blogs by my Daily Journal colleagues.

Well, it’s time to change. If I’m committing to blogging, I had better do it right. This version will focus on my comments and thoughts about day-to-day things involving Neighbors, the county and my life.

My old blog will be the host for the photos and video I post online. I’ll still post some images here, but mostly it’ll be the springboard to the slideshows and video clips. In fact, here’s the link to it.

I’m always open to story ideas and suggestions about Neighbors. Contact me with your comments and thoughts.
